Our History

Family Owned & Operated, Established in 1964

Pathfinder Country Day Camp was founded by Dr. and Mrs. Leon and Carmen Lefkowitz. The Lefkowitz's were school teachers who had a dream of creating a children's summer camp.

In 1964, the gates to Pathfinder opened with twenty five campers. Dr. Lefkowitz drove the bus and Mrs. Lefkowitz taught swimming and made lunches for the children. Together with their daughter, Nancy, they established a wonderful, unforgettable place for children to enjoy their summers.

For half a century plus, Pathfinder has been and will continue to be the definitive camp experience for an unforgettable summer to remember.

Today, Pathfinder remains a focal point of eastern Long Island's summer camps. Directors and owners Nancy & Gary Burns continue to embrace the vision built upon fifty years prior by striving to maintain the exciting and unforgettable feel of traditional summer camp days. The two have created an undeniably safe and nurturing environment, helping campers build friendships that will last a lifetime and providing enrichment in social, creative and athletic skills for every child as an individual- just as Nancy's parents did five decades ago.
